Lake Chabot Through the Trees
The Surface of Lake Chabot

I enjoy nature photography as much as my urban landscape work. I find nature's awe-inspiring light and color difficult to capture in a satisfactory way. These are a few I consider successful.
Animals are truly my favorite subject to study. I especially like chasing smaller critters or insects. Currently I'm working on some underwater videography I hope to publish on this site as well.
I have been photographing East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) covers or "caps" since 2007. EBMUD has a certain blue they spray paint these covers to indicate their location just before construction. This blue is beautiful and brilliant, but what I love is how it changes over time, worn off by tires and the hot sun. The covers soon look antiqued. Sometimes I'm lucky to find one painted in some other mysterious color. I've added other cousins to this collection; manholes, gas line caps, and other utility lids.
Hydrants are one of my favorite utility objects. I love to crouch down when I photograph them and see what they have to say. They are so full of personality.
